Active Transportation and Recreational Trails Plan

* Visit the project website here for more information including surveys and community meeting information.

The proposed Calaveras County Active Transportation and Recreational Trails Plan will build upon previous planning work to identify where new infrastructure will have the most meaningful impact. Previous plans include the 2015 Bicycle, Pedestrian & Safe Routes to Schools Plan, Regional Transportation Plan, and the Calaveras County General Plan.

The Calaveras County Active Transportation and Recreational Trails Plan builds upon previous outreach efforts, adding new web-based platforms along with traditional methods to ensure representation from the full demographic range of the County’s population. Residents provide invaluable insight into what connections need to be made and what gaps need to be closed. The outreach campaign will ensure projects are developed and prioritized based on community needs. Finally, the plan will support the development of new pedestrian and cyclist facilities, including multi-use trails and safer roadway crossings. The projects identified in the plan will include cost estimates and potential funding programs. When complete, this county-wide plan will serve as a guidebook for future investment and connection.

The rural communities of Calaveras County face barriers to their overall health, livelihood, and emotional well-being which can be alleviated through improved mobility and access to goods and services. The Calaveras County Active Transportation and Recreational Trails Plan will prioritize improvements to bicycle and pedestrian facilities, increasing equitable access throughout the County and providing health benefits.
